Beneath the constraints of geometry and assembly mechanics,
architectural details abound. Those galleries weave between the main
structure components and the glass skin tectonic apparatus. The structure
follows the horizontal lines of the planes and must transfer loads as a whole
on to vertical elements. Steel members of the structure mould the lantern’s
curved lines and also carry the envelope’s windows. The general syntax
appears in the details of mechanical fixations (hinge elements between glass
panels and the load-bearing structure). It can also be read in arrangements
hiding light, air-conditioning and safety (smoke detectors) elements whilst
enhancing the framework. The plaster lining of tilted columns, the treatment
of suspended ceilings as that of the lantern’s opaque sides, floors and
frames, contain some of the most demanding details.
