elevator shafts that increase with height of the tower,
two emergency stairwells being both necessary and suf-
ficient, whatever the height of the tower. The width can
thus not surpass 20 m and the length 40 m for 20 stories,
two elevators being sufficient, and then pass at approxi-
mately to 23 m when the shafts are doubled in width to
service 40 stories, to 26 m for 60 stories, and 30 m until
100 stories.
Two towers in Dubai, present, with an approxi-
mate height of 300 to 330 m and a width of 30 to
33 m, a slenderness (ratio between height and width) of
about 10.
It is entirely possible to realize a 120-story tower as
slender by resisting the wind and earthquake forces
with the outside terrace structures (or further using
guys to easily reach 170 floors as proposed for the small
vertical city in Chapter V.)
Again, in hot or tropical countries, there are no obs-
tacles to a design in the form of a star (as for the Burj
Khalifa in Dubai), enabling even higher construction nar-
rowing with its height to limit the wind load and projec-
ted shadows.
Vertical networks
Social networks and the life of the district, that are
woven horizontally in the street, neighborhoods and
the various districts of the low-level city, can also be
