frequency of 440 Hz at its centre (to the closest

It sets out, by means of lines, the contours of
both the construction elements and the whole
that they form, contours that are needed to
define the precise measurements of the building
with a view to being able to create it 10.

The joint
Although a small object can be monolithic, a
large object, piece of furniture or construction
must be made up of various parts in the same or
different materials.

These parts are linked to each other in count-
less ways, depending on the materials and use.

Knots, seams, adhesive, pins, nails, screws,
welds generally closely link skins, fabrics, thin
sheets, panels and profiles of all kinds to each
other, forming the parts of a big object or piece
of furniture. Their dimensions, on a decimetre
and, at most, a metre scale, can be precise and
subject to tight tolerances.

The same also applies to construction com-
ponents: from blocks of stone, wooden beams
and steel profiles to windows, doors and sinks.

10 A painter does not have the same goal and therefore, in the
majority of cases, applies himself to creating and freely supe-
rimposing patches of light, shade and colour, with the contour
being only the junction between two surfaces.
