SUSPENDED CEILING
PERIPHERAL CONNECTIONS
Whenever suspended ceilings are highly industrialised objects,
such as the fixed metallic cassette ceilings implemented here,
achieving connections with peripheral walls is always difficult,
particularly when these walls are curved. Indeed, panel edge
folds are what makes fixation possible. When cutting a panel
on the working site, as it needs to be done along the walls, the
possibility for fixation is necessarily removed. Furthermore,
this type of cutting only occurs onsite as wall tolerances are
much larger than ceiling ones. The “ideal” solution consists in
making a tooled joint to let the ceiling and walls express their
own formal characteristics without conflicting. In this case, the
need to support cut panels makes such a solution impossible.
Therefore, it was decided to resort to a small visible sectional
20 x 22 mm lath, curved onsite following the walls beneath
panels. The lath is painted black and virtually “disappears”.
That particular lath is also installed round circular sectional
columns.
