PROJECT FOR AN OFFICE
AND RESIDENTIAL COMPLEX
FOR ABEILLE-PAIX
/ BRUSSELS
/ 1985–1989
This very dense complex, located on a steeply sloping
site, offers a new way to organise and open up the inte-
riors of traditional blocks. This layout will return, with
variations adapted to specific sites and programmes,
throughout the architect’s career. The appropriate
distances between houses and the connection with
the alignments were the urban planning keys to the
project’s success. The offices are situated along the rue
Joseph II and end in a comb-shape towards the interior
of the block; the houses are arranged symmetrically
and maintain a space between them comparable to that
of the offices. This complex could be compared with
another, later one built on a nearby lot by the Planning
Group. For reasons not associated with the architecture,
no action was taken on this project.
