The best example in the case of the AGC Glass Building was the question of the building’s extension. halfway through the con- struction of the shell (October 2012), it was decided to increase the available oor area by 1,000 m2.This was followed by two further extensions, resulting from a change in the occupancy density (the number of employees per m2).The requirement for this extension was related to the rapid growth and shrinkage of AGC staf ng levels. At the time the decision was taken, the available statistics showed that the design had already reached its maximum capac- ity. This meant that there would be no room in the building for
any extra staff that might be needed, and so an extension was necessary. This decision not only had consequences for the organi- zation of the plan, but also had a major impact on the building’s fragile energy balance and the related integration of the technical infrastructure. Because the building team (i.e., all the partners) approached this new reality in the right frame of mind, shared the same values and adopted a problem-solving approach, the nec- essary extension, and the project as a whole, were successfully completed.
