WALLOON BRANCH OF
REPRODUCTION FORESTRY
MATERIAL CENTRE
/ MARCHE-EN-FAMENNE
(LUXEMBOURG PROVINCE)
/ 1992–1993
/ 1994–1995
This building, designed for storing seeds used in forestry,
is located near a motorway on the edge of an industrial
zone. It consists of a dome of wooden arches made
from circular segments. The roof contains 1,700 pieces
of lightly laminated and slightly reflective glass. As in the
restaurant deck of the service station in Orival
(01-365)
,
Philippe Samyn has opted for simplicity of implementa-
tion and a phased execution rather than needlessly
spectacular structural performance. In both cases, the
fragmentation of the initial structure produced a result
that was both surprising and disconcerting. In terms of
aesthetics, the Walloon centre defies classification.
