NYSSENS HOUSE
/ BIERGHES-LEZ-HAL
(WALLOON BRABANT PROVINCE)
/ 1974
/ 1975
This house is one of the architect’s earliest works. It is
firmly placed in its site and its modesty and clarity are
striking, as is the simplicity of the detailing. Its language
is that of both modern and traditional architecture, much
like the architects of most of the garden cities in the
inter-war period and later Denmark’s Arne Jacobsen and
Belgian architects Jean Cosse, Roger Bastin, Jacques
Wybauw and especially Peter Callebout. The facades
are composed as constructivist paintings within the
framework of a familiar, almost archetypal, silhouette,
linked to the land.
