BOULANGER HOUSE
/ OHAIN (WALLOON BRABANT PROVINCE)
/ 1976–1977
/ 1978–1979
*
This construction departs somewhat from the arche-
typal image developed in the Nyssens house and
the ‘organic’ trend that was still very much in fashion at
the time. The strong emphasis on structure (expressing,
among other things, the incline of the land towards the
south) and the building’s symmetrical design make it
closer in spirit to the works of architects from the Liège
School, including Charles Vandenhove, Bruno Albert and
Jean-Marie Dethier, but also those of the Italian School.
There is no reinforced concrete in the superstructure,
which uses only clay brick and wood. This structural
design strongly influences the morphology of the house.
