was during this project that he had the chance to build
very light structures whose thermal performance was
equal to that of massive buildings, much like traditional
Japanese houses built of wood, paper and rice straw.
What is more, Philippe Samyn refuses to create a
structure with thermal bridges, hence his preference for
wood. For him, perfect management of the relationship
between the structure, the exterior envelope and the
interior walls is particularly important, as is the integra-
tion of networks of equipment within them.
