Project for Belval
Sud primary school
/ Esch-sur-Alzette
(Luxembourg)
/ 2006–2007 *
Extending the district designed by Jo Coenen at Belval
Nord
(01-480
; not included in the anthology
)
, this small
school acts as a subtle extension of the new urban
framework just as, conversely, the urban framework of
La Charité on the Loire extends the axis of the convent
from which it takes its name. The composition is based
in part on a 60-degree framework, as was the case for
the public library in Waregem
(01-508
; not included in
the anthology
)
. The idea here is that of a classic primary
school integrated into its neighbourhood. The recreation
area is partially covered by a simple glazed umbrella,
supported by slender, interconnected metallic columns,
as is the case for the project of Libin-Transinne
(01-518)
.
For security reasons, basic metal grilles are placed in
front of the windows. The facades are decorated with
children’s drawings.
