Users of the Ardennes motorway are well acquainted
with the buildings and little rocket of the Euro Space
Center, an institution offering workshops for under-
standing space and space communications. Designed
like a large greenhouse, Philippe Samyn’s project is a
vast unifying structure. Orthogonal, louvered and by defi-
nition transparent, it covers various modulated wooden
buildings, and can be filled up as needed over time. The
horizontally pleated facade facing the motorway is made
of glass and solar panels (like the roof). It is enlivened
by large brightly coloured banners, which can serve to
communicate the centre’s activities.
