The advantages and disadvantages of a steel frame construction
A deliberate choice of steel frame construction was made on the basis of following
principles:
- Minimal weight
- Recyclable materials and components
- Easy on-site assembly
- Easy future dismantlement (all including, even the foundations)
- A structure with a minimum of additional components fulfilling the various
physical building requirements (including day lighting, night lighting,
acoustic s, fire safety, drafts and air currents,…)
- Non-toxic components
- Low exploitation and maintenance cost
- Correct integration of overhead wiring, traveler information and other
utilities and logistics.
This choice promotes practical application because of following reasons:
- Smaller dimensions of components possible because of the great sheer
strength of steel.
- Steel constructions can be produced with great accuracy (small tolerances);
quick assembly is facilitated (no or few measurement discrepancies), which
is also important for rapid disassembly.
