4.11 Platform furnishings
Glass canopies under the covering.

Slightly overlapping lowered glass roofs, which ‘float’ under the steel covering,
provide shelter while ensuring optimum light entrance. These glass canopies are
placed along the facades and at every point of support. They are designed to the
traveler’s proportions and reflect the light to the vaults.
The span of these canopies respect any train’s clearance profile. The function of the
canopies in reflective glass is to distribute the light: they reflect the rays of light to
the arches. This modification in the dispersion of the light has a double objective:
provide a better distribution of the light throughout the station, and emphasize the
roof’s three-dimensional geometry by the colour shading effect of the light.
Resting areas for the travelers.

All seating areas are located under the small canopies, which creates a feeling of
cosiness for the travelers. The seating areas on the platform are oriented towards
the incoming trains. A closed glass shelter is located at the centre under the canopy
of each platform. These transparent shelters also accommodate the necessary free
seating places for the disabled.
Signage
Spaces accommodating various facilities (such as vending machines, phone booths,
publicity panels) are located at the other points of support. Other installations such
as signs, illumination and the PA system are also grouped here. Signage has been
designed to facilitate the rapid flow of traffic streams typical for the rail travel
environment. The new platform floor consists of a grey (50%) industrial concrete
tile. Lighting levels on the platforms are increased because of the tile’s light reflective
surface.
Platform canopies outside the covering.

Simple glass canopies, placed at regular distances and supported by one central
column, are positioned at the platforms A, B/C and D. These canopies echo the
smaller ones under the covering. It is possible to place identical canopies on the
platforms 2/3 and 4/5, if these were to be extended to a length of 350 m in the
future. The masts supporting the high voltage lines were integrated in this very
construction, just as is the case for the lines under the covering.
