The central staircase in the reception area opens up the perspective to the gallery and folds upwards into space like a sheet of paper.
To make the staircase as light as possible from a visual point
of view, it was necessary to design an extra support.The latter ‘diverts’ the force of both ights of steps to a single central and eccentric point.The ights of steps being too wide to be transpor- ted to the site as a single unit, each ight consists of two separate sections.They were bolted together, and onto the central support, on site.These sketches illustrate the importance of the drawing in the search for an elegant detail for this crucial connection.
