ThE INTEGRaTION OF aRT
1
Works of art will be integrated into the overall design of the
AGC Glass Building at strategic places: in the future, the sculp- ture LIGhT 3 will mark the main entrance to the building, and the frescoes by Georges Meurant in the central gallery decorate (and cover) the internal facades of each of ce wing. his drawings on the printed glass of the closed working areas and the meeting rooms offer privacy to the users, without cutting them off from contact with the environment.
Although quite distinct in terms of scale and materials used, all three works of art share a common feature: they have a very pre- cise yet simple, almost austere design.Their place in the building has been carefully considered. They add an extra dimension where this is deemed appropriate. The presence of frescoes transforms the corridors leading to each of ce wing into a monumental entrance gateway, so that each wing is invested with an identity. The artist’s impulse was to bring colour into this area based on the spectrum of the rainbow. The clever use of these colours (blue tints in the northern section gradually changing to red tints in the south- ern section) strengthens the visitor’s sense of orientation, making it easier to nd their way around.
Because the largest works of art (LIGhT 3 and the frescoes) are placed at the junctions and axes of the most important circulation ows, they are reminiscent of urban-planning measures, but on the scale of an individual building.
